On October 8, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program released its seventh occupation‑specific draw of 2026, inviting 284 candidates from health‑care, child‑care, veterinary, and construction fields to apply for a provincial nomination. The invitation list is part of a broader strategy that groups priority occupations under the themes of Care, Build, and Innovate. Candidates who receive a nomination become provincial nominees and can then request permanent residence from the federal government. Successful applicants may also qualify for a Bridging Open Work Permit, which lets them stay and work in Canada while their permanent‑residence application is processed.
The draw focused on a detailed set of occupations. In health‑care, more than 300 nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and related professionals were targeted. The program also welcomed specialists such as cardiology technologists, chiropractors, dietitians, and social workers. To be considered, health‑care workers needed to hold a valid job offer and, for some roles, registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
The construction‑trade segment called for applicants with a SkilledTradesBC certificate or an active apprenticeship. It covered carpenters, electricians, plumbers, welders, and industrial mechanics, among others. These trades are essential to the province’s building projects and infrastructure growth.
Veterinary‑care positions were also included. Animal health technologists, veterinary technicians, and veterinarians with a recognized professional designation could receive an invitation. Finally, the child‑care category sought early‑childhood educators holding a one‑year or five‑year ECE certificate issued by the provincial registry.
All invited candidates must submit a complete application within 30 days. The provincial nomination, if granted, carries a score that reflects the candidate’s qualifications, work experience, and language ability. British Columbia has already issued more than 6,300 invitations under its general Skills Immigration stream and 120 through its Entrepreneur pathway. The province’s registration pool currently holds 7,695 profiles, with scores ranging from low to high, indicating a competitive but accessible environment for skilled workers.
A temporary measure introduced on June 9, 2026, now allows base PNP nominees to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit earlier than before, removing the need for an acknowledgment of receipt from the federal system. This change speeds up the ability of applicants to stay employed while waiting for their permanent‑residence decision.
The draw highlights British Columbia’s focus on filling labour gaps in health, construction, and child‑care sectors. For professionals in these fields, the invitation offers a clear route toward permanent residency and the chance to live and work in a province known for its natural beauty and strong economy. Readers may wish to see if this pathway matches their own career plans.
