From November 3, 2026, Canada will give extra points in its Express Entry ranking system to people who have a job offer or Canadian work experience in jobs that pay well above the national average. The new points are part of a Labour Market Integration Factor and can add up to 100 points to a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System score. The system looks at whether a job’s median wage is at least 1.3, 1.5 or 2 times the Canada‑wide median wage. The higher the wage multiple, the more points a candidate can receive.
The change also removes the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment for qualifying offers. Previously, employers had to prove that hiring a foreign worker would not hurt local jobs, a step that added paperwork and cost. Now, if a job is listed as a high‑wage occupation, the offer itself is enough to earn the bonus points. The government has published a detailed list of 186 occupations, divided into three wage tiers. Jobs such as architects, senior engineers, medical specialists, university professors and senior managers sit in the top tier and can bring the full 100 points. Mid‑tier roles, including many technical, health and education positions, can provide 70 or 40 points, while a broader set of occupations qualifies for 50, 20 or 10 points depending on the wage level.
To take advantage of the new points, candidates need to update their online Express Entry profile with the job offer details and follow the immigration department’s instructions. Even though the LMIA field still appears in the form, applicants should mark it as positive, because the requirement has been lifted for these occupations. Those who already have qualifying Canadian work experience will see the extra points added automatically.
During the two‑week period when the government recalculates scores and pauses new invitations, applicants should review their profiles and ensure their job titles match the National Occupational Classification codes on the official list. After an invitation to apply is issued, the list of high‑wage occupations at that date will remain the reference point, protecting candidates from later changes.
Overall, the reform signals a clear shift toward rewarding higher‑earning skilled workers who can fill critical gaps in the Canadian economy. By removing the LMIA hurdle and offering a sizable points boost, the policy makes it easier for professionals in well‑paid fields to reach the CRS threshold and receive an invitation. For anyone with a qualifying job offer or relevant Canadian experience, the question now is whether this new pathway could accelerate their journey to permanent residence in Canada.
